Mount Rushmore

Derek had Fall break the beginning of this week and so we decided to go somewhere and have some fun. We decided to head up to South Dakota and see Mount Rushmore. The drive was about 8-9 hours each way and the kids ended up doing really great. It definitely was a LONG drive with two little kids, but they were happy for the most part.

So we left Monday morning and got in to our hotel that afternoon. We found a hotel nearby that had a really cool mini waterpark attached and we played there a couple hours on Monday night. Addison loved the big slides and begged to go again and again. Carter also loved the warmer pool and hungout in there about an hour. We had a great time as a family.

Tuesday morning we got up and drove to Mount Rushmore. It was a neat thing to see in person and see its actual size. We also drove a little further to see Crazy Horse, the new monument they are carving in the mountain. They still have a long way to go, but we got to see his head and the start of his arm. :) After that we hit the road. Overall we were gone about 38 hours and drove about half of that. But, we had a great mini vacation and enjoyed our road trip!

Hooray for a good vacation, eh? We went to Mt Rushmore on our way to Montana this summer. It was terrific...best part of our trip, actually! It is a long drive, and i-90 is a bit of a killer, but I'm glad you guys got to go.

Now, that is a happy little family! Looked like you had your own little wagon train, with the double stroller! So glad you went, the pictures are amazing, and love all the peoples faces, , , even the stoney ones! Gotta love a good road trip!

Wow, I didn't realize how small MT Rushmore really is. I guess it is kind of like the Statue of Liberty. You always think of it as this huge thing, but it really is a lot smaller in person. Sounds like lots of fun! You are brave to roadtrip it with 2!

That looks like a lot of fun! I would love a hotel with a water park in it.
