The Rash!

***Beware, this post has pictures that may gross you out if you are sensitive to such things!***

Three weeks ago, Derek noticed a small itchy patch on the inside of his elbow on his left arm. We didn't think much of it the first few days until it started getting bigger and itching and hurting more and more. He went to Urgent Care over the weekend because we thought it might be shingles, which could be bad because it could give Carter chicken pox since he hasn't been vaccinated. So he went in and the doctor said, yes it is shingles. So he got an antibiotic and the following week it kept getting worse and bigger and spreading over about 10 spots on his body. We were confused by this and new it couldn't be shingles because it was spreading on the opposite side of his body. So Derek went back into the doctors last Friday and was told it is NOT shingles, it is Poison Oak! It is a severe case since it started popping up all over his body. Poor guy! He has been miserable for three weeks with this awful rash which has been super painful, sore and itchy. So now he is on a steroid and it is finally getting better. Four weeks ago he went to a Young Men's service project helping someone clean up their backyard and so we figure that is where he came in contact with poison oak. So we are very glad we finally know what it really is and it is getting better.

Unfortunately we forgot to take another picture at its worst. It got bigger and redder than this!

I don't even know what poison oak looks like and we have a ton of it in our area. I might be in big trouble one day...
